Proceed north on Blvd Kukulcan, hotel is located near Km marker 16.5 on right hand side of road. Authorized taxis, minivans (or collectivos), and private cars are the best way to make the journey from the airport to your hotel. Transportation options can be accessed as you exit the terminal to your right. A private taxi to downtown Cancún: $16–$25 USD. A private taxi to the Hotel Zone: more than $36 USD. Collectivos provide transportation to downtown Cancún: $5–$15 USD. A private car service to your hotel can be arranged: more than $36 USD. Rental cars are available at the airport and on this Web site: more than $36 USD. Note: Only authorized taxis are allowed to transport guests from the airport to their hotels. However, all taxis can take passengers to the airport from the city or Hotel Zone–cutting the fare almost in half. Getting around: The hotel is located within Zona Holtelera, or Hotel Zone. Taxi rates in Cancún are determined by zones and the minimum fare within the Cancún Hotel Zone is $5 USD per ride. A list outlining the various taxi rates throughout the city should be available at the resort front desk: $5–$15 USD. Taxis can be rented by the hour or day if you want to visit the historic ruins outside of the city: more than $36 USD. Always negotiate your taxi fare before beginning your trip. Rental cars offer a convenient way to visit historic points outside the city: more than $36 USD. Mopeds are a convenient, yet extremely risky, way to get around the city and islands: $26–$35 USD.

AMENITIES & SERVICES

What to expect: Elegance, ease, space around the pools and on the beach for quiet sunning and snoozing, exceptional dining options, and warm Mexican hospitality. Amenity highlights: Separated by a staircase to the beach, two pool complexes—each with its own bar and spacious sundecks—run parallel to the Caribbean for nearly a quarter-mile. Thatched-roof palapas are abundant on the decks and beach and padded lounge chairs provide comfortable sunbathing. The two-level, immense, free-form north pool features an open-air cafe. The south pool is twice as long, a sinuous affair that includes jetted areas for bubbling relaxation, and terminates on its southern end in a children's pool adjacent to a playground and activities palapa where kids' programs are conducted during busy seasons. Insider tip: Scattered along each pool deck are large palapas shading padded platforms with long, round cushions for leaning against. Spacious enough for two adults and/or several children, the platform palapas are ideal for napping or reading. Claims must be staked early when the hotel is busy.

Inspired by Mayan temple architecture, the 690-room Gran Melia Cancún consists of five pyramid-shaped towers ranging from five to eight stories, each containing a garden atrium topped by a pyramid-shaped skylight and graced by lacy plants hanging down the entire inside, with blossoms planted on the levels nearest the skylight. The main tower contains shops off the lobby and on the lower level. Also on the lower level is a doctor's office and The Spa, which includes a large, well-equipped fitness center, a beauty salon, spa, sauna, and rooms for massage and body and facial treatments. The hotel offers many complimentary activities for adults and, during the high season at its Mini Club, for children ages 4–11. Adult activities include Spanish and dancing lessons, water aerobics, bingo, and beach volleyball. Like all major Cancún hotels, the Gran Melia has a water-purification system. Note: Extra fees may apply for some services/activities.
